WIN Website Launch: Empowering Sports Inclusion, Breaking Down Barriers and Opening Doors for Every Athlete
What would Australian sport look like if every club genuinely welcomed everyone?
With 5.5 million Australians living with disability, far too many still face unnecessary barriers to participating in community sport. We’re on a mission to change that.
We’re excited to announce the launch of our new website, the Welcoming Inclusive Network (WIN) – a hub for community sports clubs to find practical support to help break down barriers and open doors for every athlete.
Through a long history of collaborating with sporting clubs and spearheading the WIN project, one thing is clear: Sporting clubs want to be inclusive but often become overwhelmed.
In a busy club space with competing priorities, limited resources, and that’s often largely volunteer-driven, there is also an additional challenge: how can you ensure disability inclusion goes beyond a box-ticking exercise?
The new WIN website changes that – offering clear direction, practical guidance and a structured pathway to work towards inclusion. Keen to check it out?
Taking a holistic approach to sports inclusion
On the WIN website, clubs are introduced to 5 pillars of inclusion: Accessibility, Community, People, Governance and Participation.
“Together, these key areas provide a clear framework for clubs to take a more holistic approach to inclusion initiatives as well as exploring how inclusion can be embedded at every club level – from governance and policy documents to daily training sessions”, says Inclusion Solutions Manager, Ciara Cooney.
“Clubs can work through and address each key area at their own pace – perfect for time-poor volunteers”.
On the website, sports clubs can find:
- A comprehensive resource hub with guidebooks, checklists and practical templates covering accessibility, coaching, governance, community engagement and more.
- A clear, step-by-step inclusion framework Co-designed with people with disability.
- Video interviews from club members, volunteers and athletes showing what inclusion looks like in practice!
- A sports inclusion assessment tool to understand where your club sits.
- Information about the WIN Badge – Australia’s first disability inclusion accreditation for sports clubs.
The WIN website provides clubs with a clear, self-paced pathway supported by practical tools, real stories, and expert guidance. Explore the website today.
